When i first posted about the Nokia 6600 and its software i didn't anticipate all the attention it would get. This site has been flooded with hits reffering from searches for 'Nokis 6600 Software'. I also have received many e-mails about the subject. So here, finally, is an update to that post.
There is loads of software available at the moment for the 60 series phones and much more coming. However the vast majority of these programs cost money. The better sites for these pay-to-use programs are MySymbian and the Nokia Shop. However there is also alot of freeware floating around the net.
What always annoyed me about my 6600 was that the video recoreder only took 9 seconds of video. However a nice bit of software breaks that code and allows you to take longer videos...and it free too. Download it from here
The first piece of software i downloaded was from AgileMobile. It was a programm that enabled my phone to connect to various messanger services (msn messanger, yahoo messnger etc.) called Agile Messanger. This is a free download which makes it a must have for anyone with a series 60 phone. All you need is a GPRS connection with the correct settings to run this program. Also available from the same company are the fun (yet pretty functionless) programs Agile Lie Detector, Agile Pets and Agile Fighter Bluetooth. All are free downloads.
Perhaps the most usefull piece of software i have on my phone right now is 'ReadM', my e-book reader. From the site:
ReadM is a highly configurable reader for electronic books, which could be scaled down to a barebone plain text viewer, but, if necessary, it could be enhanced with quite sophisticated bookmarks system (including highlights and text corrections) and with support for a variety of most popular text and audio formats (including Aportis DOC, TCR, and MP3.)
Basicaslly you can carry round books and music in your phone. This was especially usefull as the 6600 doesn't have an MP3 player built-in! Again this software is free and can be downloaded here.
A problem i had with my 6600 when i first got it was being able to see all the files i had on the phone and memory card, how much memory these took up, how much memory i had free...basically i needed a Nokia equivilent of windows explorer. That is perhaps the best way to decribe 'FExplore'...Windows Explorer for Nokia phones. This too is free software.
Well i hope this qenches your thirst for now. I have more software to try out and review so i shall update the site regularly with 6600 related posts.
