Nokia 6680: Sneak Peak

N6680A mock-up of the Nokia 6680, of which there have been rumors flying around the past month, has been leaked on mobile.cz. The Nokia 6680 is rumored to be the next 3G phone from Nokia, which will probably run the new generation of the Series60 platform which integrated the functions from the now defunct Series90 platform. The Nokia 6680 will also be the first Nokia 3G mobile which will have a user-facing camera. The fantastic Nokia 6630, aka Charlie, only had a camera that faced away from the user making video-calls impossible without using a separate cradle. For now, there are no confirmed specs for the phone, but I'll bring you more news as it is announced..

Whats most interesting for me is the fact that this phone has a user-facing camera. I have ranted before about the future of Mobile Video-Calls and i touched upon the fact that Nokia seemed to be shunning that technology. Every 3G mobile Nokia has ever produced has never been built for Video-Calls so this change in features is very interesting. Has Nokia found new confidence in the future of Video-Calls? Or are they only providing the extra camera so as to match the competition from other 3G mobiles?

My gut reaction is that they are simply trying to match the competition. While I don't disagree with you it seems that very few are calling on phone makers for mobile video calls.

do you have a software that enlarges the text on sms messaging? And, are your free applications on this site are full version ones?

I would love to get my hands on this phone. At the moment i've got the 6230 and i plan to place it on the market once i've got the 6680. It may not be cheap but i do reckon it will be worth the cost and the effort in securing it.

Do not by a phone from phones2udirect they have very poor customer service, i have phoned them 6 times and they have only ansered the phone once. On friday 30.june.2006 there phones were all down. There emails are just not helpfull at all and it makes you feel angry. Plus they reject there cash back claims, there terms and conditions are very complex so thats why i phoned them and the man on the phone told me what to do and it was wrong i lost my cashback, but they dont write to tell you untill the expiry date has passed so you cant do anything about it its all wrong . And i would just say dont shop with them go somewhere else you will be glad you did, trust me its true.

I agree with Ant abour Phones2UDirect there are one rip merchants in mobile phones. There do not give you your cashback as the claim you send in the wrong months bill. I have an example of what there do. i sent in the June bill and waitied to hear from them, tried to call, emailed them many times NO RESPONSE. When i received a letter in August stating it was the wrong month bill sent my date fro the correct month bill cannot be sent as the 14 days from receiving the bill had passed. They do not PAY out so tell others not to buy from them make them go out of business. I really hate them. PHONES2UDIRECT are crap basically

Posted by: Massy | 10 Aug 2006 21:37:35

Massy, what invoice did you send through? I wrote to them about this and they came back with:

"We are not able to confirm exact dates, as it is possible for billing dates to change. As such we are only ever able to be 100% sure of the date when backdating the claim. As we do specify though, the first invoice we require is the first one you receive on or after 180 days from the date of connection, which in your case was the 2nd of December. If you count correctly therefore, you will not be able to get this wrong. We then require the bills every 3 months subsequent to that, until the end of your minimum contract term ( i.e. the bills for months 9 & 12 on a 12 month contract, as stated in the T&C's you have read)."
Therefore, I signed up 2/12/2005 plus 180 days = 31/5/2006. I sent the first invoice received since that date to Phones2udirect on 8/6/2006 (think it was the 7th physical invoice). Still no cashback and no response from them. I may have to seek legal advice.

Cheers.

I had the same thing, but a letter came after 6 weeks but was dated 10 days prior saying that no cashback as the 6th bill wasn't after 180 days (7th Bill). I'll write to them today and threaten with legal action. I have all the proof...The cashback is about £300, so hence the complex way.
I will let you guys know.

Posted by: Vinod | 16 Aug 2006 16:26:05

Has anyone succeeded in getting cash back from Phones2udirect? I have just (stupidly) taken out a 12 month contract with them (with free line rental via cashback). I sat down to work out the bills I would need to send them, but as you all say, the T&C are intentionally vague. I emailed them for clarification, and I received a reply telling me to refer to their terms and conditions! If it is the first invoice you receive after 180 days of connection, then it will be my 7th invoice....so does that mean my 9 and 12 month invoice will be my 10th and 13th? Do we even get a 13th?!

I am so angry with their attitude. I am going to Trading Standards to find out my rights. Surely there must be some kind of legislation over clear T&Cs?
